Scotland - Edinburgh 27.03.08
Easter in Edinburgh with Andrew and George was awesome times. Left London to Edinburgh on a 9 hour over night bus ride at 11pm which was the worst part of the holiday, being cramped up in a bus trying to sleep for that long is definetly tough times. Arrived in Edinburgh at 8am and checked in to St Christophers Place hostel which ended up being a pretty sweet hostel as it had a bar which was always packed with backpackers!
Started the day off with a 3 and a half hour walking tour which included Edinburgh castle, a famous graveyard and Princes gardens. The tour was more about priceless information about Edinburghs dark history which included many people being beheaded and plenty of wars with the English. After the tour it was time for a well earned pint or 8 back at the hostel to take us into the night.
Woke up the next day at 7:30am and departed Edinburgh on a day tour to the Highlands and The Famous Groush whisky distillery. A great day out getting amongst the country side, snow covered mountains, rivers and of course whisky tasting. At points during the day i felt like i was being driven around parts of NZ as the scenery was so similar.
Arrived back to the hostel around 6 and were welcomed in our room by 3 lovely turkish girls and it was snowing outside!! Headed down to the bar with the ladies and got back on the juice. Hit a club with a handful of Scottish local ladies and danced the night away to Vegas themed music.
Hungover the next morning we thought it would be a good idea to take the turkish ladies to the local beach (Seton Sands) around 30 minutes away on a bus. The boys and I took a quick dip in the freezing cold water (try and imagine how cold it was because it snowed the previous day) and headed back to Edinburgh city. Spent the afternoon hiking up Arthurs Seat and checking out the famous Edinburgh church. Come the end of the day we were all nackered and couldn't wait to get on the bus and head home to our comfy beds.
Edinburgh was beautiful and a great break away from concrete city London. Lots of the city reminded me of NZ and the scottish were great hosts!
