Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur 09.09.11
Kuala Lumpur was Aurelie and I's stop over destination on our holiday to France as we got super cheap $1000AU each return flights with AirAsia from Perth.
We had 10 hours layover time to kill in KL on the way to France so we decided to catch a cab in to the city and have a quick look around. Going to the city was a good idea but the cab part wasn't, the driver who called himself Schumacher was a maniac driving at 140km/h+ weaving his way in and out of congested traffic. I was literally holding on to the door handle for my life for most of the ride, by the time we got out I had pretty much shit myself.
Once arrived we found a hop on hop off bus and spent a couple of hours driving around looking at the city and taking photos along the way. After the bus ride I couldn't help myself and headed straight to China Town to do a bit of haggling/bartering for copied boardshorts, t-shirts etc. It was Aurelies first time in Asia and she was a pro from the get go demanding shoes, bags etc at super low prices haha.
On our way home from France we had 2 more days in KL. We checked in to the Shangri-La Hotel in the middle of the city which was truly amazing and the best hotel I've stayed at yet. The staff were super friendly, decor impressive but my jaw dropped when we walked in and saw all of the buffet breakfast bars filled to the brim with all the food you can imagine. I guess you just have to see it for yourself but it made me feel like a King and I wish we could of stayed there longer.
Over the 2 days we checked out Batu Caves which were alright nothing special I felt, experienced a fish spa (which I hated, way to ticklish), shopped till we dropped in huge shopping malls throughout the city and of course haggled for bargains in China Town for copied goods.
KL was a nice city with great shopping but not as good as Singapore or Bangkok in the way of things to see and do in my opinion.
